I'm scared. I think I might be pregnant. Can you help me?
You may be scared, but know that Hand 'n Hand is here for you. One of our caregivers will spend time with you to answer any concerns you may have. She will offer you Options Counseling which means that she will discuss in detail about parenting, adoption and abortion to help you decide what is best for you and your situation at this time.
Are your services confidential?
Any and all information shared with us will be kept in the strictest confidence except as required by Missouri law or as required for the protection of yourself or others. You don't have to worry if your family or friends will find out. We'll do everything we can to protect your privacy. You control the level of personal contact desired.
Can I get a pregnancy test at Hand 'n Hand?
Yes. We offer a lab quality pregnancy test that detects a 99% accurate result as early as 7-10 days after conception. With a positive test result we offer a free ultrasound exam to confirm a viable pregnancy.
How much does a pregnancy test cost?
A confidential pregnancy test and ultrasound exam are offered free of charge. No money or insurance is required.
Do you take walk-ins or do I need an appointment for a pregnancy test?
We do assist walk-ins; however it is best to make an appointment for a pregnancy test. With an appointment, you will have little or no wait time and we will be prepared for your arrival. Walk-ins must arrive no later than 1 hour prior to closing.
What should I bring with me to my appointment?
We will need a valid Photo ID to administer the test. You will also need to provide us with the first day of your last period. We will obtain a urine sample from you at your appointment.
How long does it take to get my result?
You will receive your test result during your visit. Please allow an hour for your pregnancy test appointment. If you are six weeks or more into your pregnancy we will do an ultrasound exam to confirm the test and determine if your pregnancy is viable. If less than six weeks, we will schedule your ultrasound exam for a later date.
Do you provide Proof of Pregnancy?
Yes. We will give you a Pregnancy Test Form, confirming either a positive or negative test result. This form may be used to verify a pregnancy for the purpose of obtaining medical assistance, for those who qualify, through the Division of Family Services.
I am only 15. Will a parent be required to come with me for a pregnancy test?
No. You may come in alone. Even though you are a minor, you have the right to confidential help, except as required by Missouri law or as required for the protection of yourself or others.
Can I bring someone with me?
Absolutely. It is important to have the support of friends or family during an uncertain time. The initial intake process will be private between you and your caregiver; however, there will be a time when your friend or family member may join you, if that is your desire.
Can I get the morning-after pill at Hand 'n Hand?
Hand 'n Hand does not offer the morning-after pill, or Plan B. We can provide you with information about emergency contraception so that you are fully informed prior to use.
I want an abortion. Can you tell me where to get one?
Hand 'n Hand does not perform or refer for an abortion. We do, however, provide pregnancy options counseling. Call us for help.
What is "abortion recovery support"?
The process of recovering from an abortion is different for everyone. Many women, and even men, have come to Hand 'n Hand for post-abortive support. They realize they are having difficulty dealing with all of the unexpected consequences on their own. We are here to help, no matter what choices you have made in the past; whether it was a recent abortion or many years ago.
I am pregnant and will need help to provide needs for my baby. Can you help?
Hand 'n Hand is able to assist with material needs items for your baby from birth until your child reaches the 2nd birthday. Contact us for more information.
Do you offer parenting support?
Pregnancy test clients who test positive are invited to participate in the Caring Hands Program. Caring Hands is a monthly class for the expectant mom and dad. The class consists of 8 sessions with the same caregiver. It is our hope that you will learn valuable information regarding maintaining a healthy pregnancy and infant care following the birth of your baby.
